I have learned in previous dealings with my lovely mare to give up predicting how she will behave. After her two past lessons were making her tense instead of relaxed, a slight knee injury, a horrible time getting a massage (who doesn't like a massage?!), most would predict she would be a complete buttmunch for her weekly lesson with Charlene. After all, we never found the cause of her complaints (possibly in season, muck itch, saddle fit). Surprise, she was back to being Angelic Prophecy! We had only planned on long lining her, but she was so absolutely quiet, Charlene popped on for a bit and she was her quiet, trusting self. So then (drum roll), I got to pop on and walk around a bit. Yep, rode my own horse! I tried to stay loose, and had to be content to just keep my shoulders tense and hips relaxed, as confirmed by Charlene's pictures and video.
Time to take Hillary up on the offer to ride her horse and practice getting in riding shape!
Homework: Try to track Prophecy's cranky, don't touch me mood to see if it links to her being in season.
